Hello delegates!

My name is Ikhee, and I am a senior at SASPX. My MUN journey began in 7th grade as a delegate in the Economic and Social Council of DIMUN, and eleven conferences later, it is my honor and utmost pleasure to serve as the President for NATO of SHASMUN XIII.

The topic I will be working with for this conference is “Decoupling foreign influences from key industrial military sectors in NATO member states.” I look forward to hearing sophisticated arguments tackling socioeconomic and political issues that continue to jeopardize the world around us.

See you soon!

Hi everyone!

My name is Jasmine, and I’m a senior at SAS Puxi. I feel extremely honored to chair NATO at SHASMUN.

This year at SHASMUN, I will be focusing on the topic of admitting new members to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization—an extremely relevant topic to the geopolitics and security atmosphere of the Atlantic and Europe today. Delegates will explore criteria for membership, potential candidates, and the implications for alliance cohesion and deterrence strategies.

Debates in this committee should spark thoughts and insights on global governance, security, and the international order in transition in the 21st century. The trajectory of global affairs—whether toward deeper fragmentation or a stronger, more resilient world order—lies in the delegates' hands.

I will do my best to support delegates, ensuring a fun, friendly, and intellectually stimulating environment.

See y'all at SAS PD!

Greetings, delegates!

My name is Lily Kim, and I am a junior at Shanghai American School Puxi. I have been involved in MUN since I was a freshman, and this conference marks my 9th conference. It is my honor to serve as your Deputy President for NATO at SHASMUN XIII.

Over the numerous conferences I attended, one big development I had was gaining confidence. Now, as a chair, I hope I can help you find your voice and confidence. And in this SHASMUN conference, I have no doubt that you will leave with a memorable experience and a dream to chase.

The issue I will be focusing on is “Establishing the accountability of all member states to the defense of Europe.” Collective defense is undeniably NATO’s most fundamental principle. Yet, imbalances in commitment persisted after WWII, and in the era where tension starts to bounce back, it is crucial to address the issue once again.

I look forward to seeing you guys in February, and please feel to reach out if you need any help!
