Greetings, delegates! My name is Karen Wang, and I am a senior at Shanghai American School Puxi. SHASMUN XIII will mark my twelfth Model United Nations conference and my fifth time serving as a chair.

For this iteration of SHASMUN, my topic of focus will be addressing the environmental crisis regarding rising sea levels, an issue of serious global concern. Rising sea levels are one of the most visible and devastating consequences of climate change that impact millions of people, especially coastal communities that face increasing threats from flooding, erosion, and displacement. It requires both immediate adaptation measures and long-term mitigation plans.

Within the committee room, I personally value quality speeches and amendments that actually make a change in the resolution. I hope that delegates not only contribute meaningfully to our debates but also take away valuable knowledge and insights from this conference. Delegates should come prepared with thorough research and a willingness to engage in substantive discussions that will drive real progress in our resolution.

Please feel free to email me at karen01px2026@saschina.org if you have any questions regarding committee procedures, preparation materials, or the topic at hand.

I am excited to meet you all in February!

Greetings, delegates!

My name is Ethan Zhu, a junior at the Shanghai SMIC Private School, and it is my honor to serve as your Deputy President of the Environment Commission. SHASMUN XIII will mark the 14th conference of my high school MUN career and my 6th as a student officer.

For this iteration of SHASMUN, my topic of focus will be addressing the increased environmental toll incurred by the advent of AI. Within the committee room, I personally value progress with a resolution. This means more amendments, speedy POIs, and quality speeches that actually make a change in the committee.

Lastly, as someone who has attended conferences all across Asia, from BEIMUN in the capital of China to YaleMUN Korea in Seoul to even running my own conference, SMICMUN, here in Shanghai, I am well versed in both the THIMUN and UNA-USA format. Please feel free to email me at ethanzhu11@outlook.com if you have any questions regarding procedures, opening speeches, or resolutions.

See you all in a few weeks!
