Secretary General

Secretary General Gina Lin, Class of 2027

Honorable Directors, Distinguished Delegates, Student Officers, and Guests,

Welcome to SHASMUN XIV. My name is Gina Lin, and I am honored to serve as your Secretary-General. My journey with Model United Nations began seven years ago as a sixth-grade delegate at this very conference. The vibrant community and the quality of debate I encountered here were instrumental in sparking a commitment that has defined much of my time at Shanghai American School Pudong. To now lead the conference that first inspired me is a privilege I hold with great seriousness and joy.

MUN, at its best, is a rehearsal for the world we wish to build. It teaches us that diplomacy is not merely about negotiation, but about understanding, and that the most powerful arguments are those rooted in empathy and evidence. Shanghai, a city that thrives on its diversity and global connections, is the ideal backdrop for this work.

As you embark on this conference, I encourage you to embrace both the rigor and the camaraderie that define SHASMUN. Challenge ideas, not people. Build alliances, but also build character. And amid the resolutions and caucuses, remember to forge the kind of friendships that outlast any committee session. I look forward to seeing the thoughtful, courageous, and collaborative spirit you will bring to SHASMUN XIV.

Secretary General Andrew Liu, Class of 2027

Honorable directors, distinguished delegates, student officers, and guests!

My name is Andrew Liu, a senior at SAS Pudong, and it is my upmost honor to serve as your Secretary General in SHASMUN XIV! My MUN journey started in high school, making this my fourth year in this captivating community full of supportive, friendly, and intelligent delegates. Needless to say, SHASMUN holds a special place in my heart; it’s like playing a home game in sports. I am thrilled to present to you the charms of SHASMUN as the SG!

MUN has been the highlight of my high school career. It gives me a platform to meet amazing delegates who share my passion and inspire me to become a more diplomatic person. On top of heated intellectual debates regarding pressing issues around the world, MUN brings me so much joy in collaborating with others. My MUN journey has made me a more caring global citizen who is more aware of our world today and has motivated me to be more active in finding solutions to any problem in life.

I extend my sincerest welcome to all esteemed delegates, chairs, and directors to SHASMUN XIV. See you in March!
